Migration from On-Premises VMware Cloud Director Availability to the Cloud
Migration from on-premises vSphere infrastructure (On-Premises) can be performed from VMware Cloud Director® or VMware vCenter Server®. For vSphere 5.5, 6.0 versions, migration can only be performed through the Cloud Director interface.
1. Create a new migration
- vCenter
- Cloud Director
- In vCenter, from the Menu menu, select Cloud Availability.
- Go to Outgoing Replications.
- Click (New Migration).
The Allow Access from Cloud option must be enabled for migration on the on-premises side of the VMware Cloud Director Availability installation. Migration can be performed by a user with administrator privileges.
- From Control Panel, open the Cloud Director panel: VMware-based Cloud → Cloud Director.
- From the More menu, select Availability.
- Go to Incoming Replications.
- Press ALL ACTIONS → New Migration.
2. Set up migration
- Enter the organization's administrator credentials in the format
administrator-<s-xxxx>@<s-xxxx>
, where<s-xxxx>
is the name of the organization. - In the vCenter VMs step, select the virtual machine that you will replicate.
- At the Source VMs and vApps step, in the Destination Site field, click Select site and select the VMware Cloud Director site.
- In the Settings step, set a convenient time for the first synchronization.
- To save disk space on the remote site, eliminate unnecessary disks.
- If the remote site already has a previously imported copy of the replicated virtual machine, select it to reduce traffic.
- Wait for the initial data synchronization to complete.
- Press (Migrate).
- For a running copy of the virtual machine at the remote site, select network.
- Consolidate the virtual machine disks.
- Configure the virtual machine to power on after migration.
- To delete a replication task, under Outgoing Replications, check the box and select Delete replication from the ALL ACTIONS menu.
